Even if you don't consider yourself a traditional decor enthusiast, this living room is sure to give you pause. It has those classic bones that are timeless and elegant at its core. Then top that with layers of fresh, modern details and it's a whole new look for TRAD. One that we can totally get behind. Tour the full space crafted by Centered By Design with photos by Anna Sodziak in the VAULT.
This neutral and French vintage inspired living room was designed with lots of love in Chicago by me (aka Claire Staszak of Centered by Design). My clients, Erica & Donovan, needed help showcasing the wonderful architectural details of their open floor plan entry and living room, but did not know where to start.
We began when Erica approached me after our book club one evening, and asked if I had ideas to makeover their space. I could see so much potential! And jumped at the opportunity to transform their home. After discussing her love of the color grey and the city of Paris, I knew I could come up with a color scheme, and comfortably elegant feel for the living space that would hit all the right notes.
The first step was to repaint. The chair rail, picture frame molding and trim was all painted white creating a unified and traditional feel. The top of the walls was painted in my favorite soft gray, Lamp Room Gray, by Farrow & Ball.
Next I selected soft neutral furnishings, taking care to add in pattern, metallics and a pop of black to ground the room and keep it interesting.
A touch of old world charm was added with vintage furnishings from some of my favorite local vendors such as South Loop Loft, The Savoy Flea and MegMade.
The result is a peaceful and neutral entertaining area that feels old world, yet still modern and fresh!
